Niagara trip

Am not a travel freak, neither am I a big fan of sight seeing trips...I always piggyback on some of friends with their carefully laid out travel plans just for the sake of my wife who likes to roam around and considers that's the best way to enjoy life. Here's one friend of mine, the most mature of the ones I've got, who suggested this trip with a reserved train ticket from Toronto to Niagara on this 'Labour day' long weekend. Here's how it was:

Fancying our first ever train trip we went on to take a 'Via rail' bound to New york starting at 830 am from Toronto Union Via rail station. Pls don't confuse yourselves over the queue that lines up in the train boarding gate. It seems you need to take that queue to get your preferred seat. No seat allocation, its all first come first.

First ever Canadian train experience was boringly slow and I had a tough time answering my daughter's never ending tweet "are we there yet???"

When we reached the Niagara falls station it reminded me of the opening scene of some of the Bharathi Raja films that start in deserted train stations with village backdrop. As my friend went in to collect the map, I peaked on to an older adult to check how to get into River Rd.

River Rd was where we have "White water walk" - a Niagara attraction. Also on the same road is our (in)famous "Days In North of Falls" motel. For the price, I would say it was okay..Another point to note is most of these hotels are offer free shuttles to downtown..

The one that I would recommend all the visitors is the Niagara falls and Great George Adventure pass
It gives you access to most of the attractions; you can get this pass online, but don't forget to exchange your online receipt for the tickcets at the Welcome centre located in Clifton Hills.
It also comes with a day pass for each member in the shuttle "People mover" that literally takes you and drops you at most of the attractions' door steps.

Don't miss the Buddha stupa at River Rd..

The return journey was okay..but Via rail started with almost 30 mins delay..

Wings of Fire – Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s Autobiography - Reading notes

This is an Autobiography  by one of the India`s most celebrated scientists and leaders, who has a tremendous following across all different age groups especially India`s youngsters. It may lack the literary flamboyance   of   an eminent author; it may not meet the standards   that a literary critic would weigh in on , but it leaves you glued to the life   of  a boat owner’s son, his passion towards rocketry, science , his career struggle through the red-tape clad ladders   of   the Indian Bureaucracy which aligns itself with the journey   of   India's technology advancement and self-reliance in the field of Rocketry and nuclear defence capabilities. It draws you into an aura of amazement and wonder when you read through the indescribable sense   of   accomplishment at the peak period   of   Mr. Kalam’s life and sometime make you feel that they are your(reader’s) accomplishments and that`s the indisputable success fa...

Reading notes - GRIT The Power of PASSION and PERSEVERANCE

This isn't a review rather my reading notes and thoughts that arouse when I read this.  Overall it's an enlightening and easy read and gives us (the readers) loads of methods and tools e.g. Grit score Matrix to help us improve on the subject area. In the cases were people who score handsomely in SAT can be less gritty. How can this happen? What happens to their grittiness when they are prepare for the SAT ? Could it be that they didn't prepare with Interest and Purpose? Angela quotes Harvard psychologist William James "The plain fact remains that men the world over possess amounts of resource which only very exceptional individuals push to their extremes of use". Very very true and the fact that he has proclaimed it in 1907 is amazing and makes one wonder how much of research and findings would have been available then.  Looks like Enron had the Talent mindset not only during recruitment but also during the annual performance reviews. I think this sho...
