Niagara trip


Am not a travel freak, neither am I a big fan of sight seeing trips...I always piggyback on some of friends with their carefully laid out travel plans just for the sake of my wife who likes to roam around and considers that's the best way to enjoy life. Here's one friend of mine, the most mature of the ones I've got, who suggested this trip with a reserved train ticket from Toronto to Niagara on this 'Labour day' long weekend. Here's how it was:

Fancying our first ever train trip we went on to take a 'Via rail' bound to New york starting at 830 am from Toronto Union Via rail station. Pls don't confuse yourselves over the queue that lines up in the train boarding gate. It seems you need to take that queue to get your preferred seat. No seat allocation, its all first come first.

First ever Canadian train experience was boringly slow and I had a tough time answering my daughter's never ending tweet "are we there yet???"

When we reached the Niagara falls station it reminded me of the opening scene of some of the Bharathi Raja films that start in deserted train stations with village backdrop. As my friend went in to collect the map, I peaked on to an older adult to check how to get into River Rd.

River Rd was where we have "White water walk" - a Niagara attraction. Also on the same road is our (in)famous "Days In North of Falls" motel. For the price, I would say it was okay..Another point to note is most of these hotels are offer free shuttles to downtown..

The one that I would recommend all the visitors is the Niagara falls and Great George Adventure pass
It gives you access to most of the attractions; you can get this pass online, but don't forget to exchange your online receipt for the tickcets at the Welcome centre located in Clifton Hills.
It also comes with a day pass for each member in the shuttle "People mover" that literally takes you and drops you at most of the attractions' door steps.

Don't miss the Buddha stupa at River Rd..

The return journey was okay..but Via rail started with almost 30 mins delay..

Though I am not onboard with "someone who calls himself as Sadhguru" type practice, I never was able to come up with a logical anti-argument on any points/ideas that Mr Jaggi brings about in his speech and interviews. Infact there are many points for which, I could only get logical explanations from Mr Jaggi on some of the preached practices in India. The most recent example was "why beef eating is seen as a less-human act" and his explanation to that kind of made sense. One idea that I could never buy into whole-heartedly, was this concept of  "Inner Engineering". Due to the lack of knowledge or lack of evidence that it would work and it's a viable practice. Dubai - November 2022

  As I landed onto Terminal 3 of Dubai international airport, the first impression I got off the enormous facility was that it’s sheer size and scale, which is quite obvious when you walk into the world’s second largest building by usable floor space. What I didn’t know then is that Dubai airport is the world’s busiest in terms of volume of international passengers that fly by. I have actually flown through Dubai almost 13 years ago when I had a transit stop in this airport, but I failed to notice the vastness of the facility possibly because I was tired from a 13 hour flight from Toronto. Another interesting observation (purely anecdotal) was 3 out of every 5 staff members at the airport seem to belong to a south Asian(India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh) lineage and I noticed that there is abundance of workforce engaged in the upkeep of the airport, I even felt that they were overstaffed at times. Reading notes - When breath becomes air

This is the first book that made me tear up as I was reading through in multiple instances. I could be easily moved emotionally using some visual media but for the first time I felt I was emotionally moved as I read through the printed passages. This reflects how eloquent Paul Kalanithi is and perhaps being a quadragenerian father I could relate easily and realistically to some of the real moments Paul has gone through that he has wrote about in this book. He gives no room for you to wonder, how come a Neurosurgeon can be so eloquent in his writing style, choice of words, rich anecdotes from some of the best known literary works, as he gives you a clear view of his childhood, adolescence and his college/university days where he learnt literature.
